Backups

Backups are boring, and you can keep them that way with our server-to-server backup service.

The following are requirements of a successful backup strategy:

Regular

Typically, backups of user data should run at least once every day. If there is a lot of data changing on a daily basis, more frequent backups may be appropriate.

Automatic

Backups should be fully automated and require no human intervention. You probably have better things to do than to search for tapes or swap portable disks around.

Incremental

It must be possible to restore this document as it was last Wednesday or that spreadsheet as it was on the first of the month.

Redundant

There must be at least two physically separate copies of the data to guard against one copy failing or being corrupted

Off-site

The backup data must be stored off-site to mitigate against fire or theft.

Secure

The backed up data must be secure both while it is being backed up and once the backup is complete.

Monitored

It is vital to know whether there has been any problem with the backup process

Tested

The only way to know that data can be restored from the backup is to try it.

The Tiger Computing Backup Service meets the first seven of the eight requirements above, and we can help you with number eight too.
