Monitoring
All computers require some kind of ongoing monitoring to ensure that they will continue to function properly, and Linux is no exception. This must include both hardware, such as critical system fans and disk drives, and also the software running on the server. Even monitoring the ways in which the system is being used is important, so that you can tell when a disk is about to get full, or when a server is struggling to cope with the load placed on it.
Monitoring systems should be integrated with alerting mechanisms, so that the right people can be notified of any issues in plenty of time. This is as true for a small business with one server as it is for a large organisations with a team of support staff.
At Tiger Computing we can provide a monitoring service, or we can help you to develop your own monitoring systems so that you can take a preventative approach to maintenance and keep your Linux systems working at their best.
