• System monitoring: for a multi-million pound turnover web-based business, all business servers are now monitored 24 hours a day and staff notified of any potential issues.
• Ticketing system: typically used to help manage helpdesks, ticketing systems are also being used in a wider context, such as managing sales leads.
• Firewall configuration: for a college with students who need access to the Internet at certain times. A web-based interface was created that allowed lecturers to control Internet access on a per-classroom basis, with all classrooms being granted access outside of college hours. All Internet content is scanned for suitability before being displayed to students, although again this can be overridden on a classroom by classroom basis if required.
• High availability configurations: for a customer serving the data-critical commercial aviation sector, a multi-server system was implemented featuring automatic failover from live to standby servers in the event of problems. The solution is also scalable, meaning that as workloads increase additional servers may be installed to share the workload.
• Performance troubleshooting: an international company in the insurance sector was experiencing performance problems with their Linux servers. Our consultant was able to diagnose the problem and make further recommendations to improve the reliability and efficiency of their IT infrastructure.
